Ingredients of Rice Krispie Treats
6 cups Rice Krispies cereal
3 tablespoons unsalted butter
1 package (10 oz) marshmallows or 5 cups mini marshmallows
1/4 teaspoon salt (optional)
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract (optional)
Instructions for making Rice Krispie Treats:
Prepare the Pan: Lightly grease a 9×13 inch baking pan with butter or non-stick cooking spray. You can also line it with parchment paper for easy removal.
Melt the Butter: In a large saucepan, melt the butter over low heat. Once melted, add the marshmallows to the pan, stirring continuously until they are fully melted and combined with the butter. If using, add the salt and vanilla extract to the mixture.
Combine with Cereal: Remove the saucepan from heat. Add the Rice Krispies cereal to the melted marshmallow mixture. Stir gently but thoroughly until all the cereal is evenly coated with the marshmallow mixture.
Press into Pan: Pour the mixture into the prepared baking pan. Use a buttered spatula or the back of a spoon to press the mixture evenly into the pan. Be careful not to press too hard, as this can make the treats dense.
Cool and Cut: Allow the treats to cool in the pan for at least 30 minutes or until set. Once cooled, cut into squares or rectangles.
Serve and Enjoy: Enjoy your homemade Rice Krispie Treats as a sweet snack or dessert. Store leftovers in an airtight container to keep them fresh.
Tips:
For extra flavor, consider adding mix-ins like chocolate chips, sprinkles, or peanut butter to the melted marshmallows.
For a festive touch, use colored marshmallows or sprinkle the top with edible glitter before the treats set.
