Chicken Parmesan

Chicken Parmesan

Ingredients of Chicken Parmesan

4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts
Salt and pepper, to taste
1 cup all-purpose flour
2 large eggs
1 cup breadcrumbs
1 cup grated Parmesan cheese
1 teaspoon dried oregano
1 teaspoon garlic powder
1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)
1/2 cup olive oil

For the Sauce:

2 cups marinara sauce
1/4 cup fresh basil leaves, chopped

For Assembling:

2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
Fresh basil leaves, for garnish

Instructions for making Chicken Parmesan:

Prepare the Chicken:

Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
Season the chicken breasts with salt and pepper.
Set up a breading station with three shallow dishes: one with flour, one with beaten eggs, and one with a mixture of breadcrumbs, grated Parmesan, dried oregano, garlic powder, and red pepper flakes.

Bread the Chicken:

Dredge each chicken breast in the flour, shaking off any excess.
Dip the floured chicken into the beaten eggs, allowing any excess to drip off.
Coat the chicken thoroughly with the breadcrumb mixture, pressing gently to adhere.

Cook the Chicken:

Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat.
Cook the breaded chicken breasts in batches, about 2-3 minutes per side, until golden brown and crispy.
Transfer the browned chicken breasts to a paper towel-lined plate to drain any excess oil.

Assemble the Dish:

Spread 1 cup of marinara sauce evenly in a baking dish.
Place the chicken breasts on top of the sauce.
Spoon the remaining marinara sauce over the chicken.
Sprinkle the shredded mozzarella and grated Parmesan cheese evenly over the top.

Bake:

Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes, or until the cheese is melted, bubbly, and slightly golden.
Garnish and Serve:

Remove from the oven and let it rest for a few minutes.
Garnish with fresh basil leaves.
Serve hot with pasta, a side salad, or garlic bread.

Tips
For a lighter version, you can bake the breaded chicken breasts at 400°F (200°C) for 20 minutes instead of frying.
Add extra herbs like fresh parsley or thyme to the breadcrumb mixture for added flavor.
Make sure the chicken breasts are of even thickness for uniform cooking.
