Ingredients of Apple Pie:
1 double pie crust (homemade or store-bought)
6 cups peeled and sliced apples (such as Granny Smith or Honeycrisp)
3/4 cup granulated sugar
2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1 tablespoon lemon juice
2 tablespoons unsalted butter, cut into small pieces
1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)
1 tablespoon granulated sugar (for sprinkling)
Instructions for making an Apple Pie:
Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Place a baking sheet in the oven to preheat as well.
Roll out one pie crust and line a 9-inch pie dish. Trim the edges and set aside.
In a large bowl, combine the sliced apples, sugar, flour, cinnamon, nutmeg, and lemon juice. Toss until the apples are evenly coated.
Pour the apple mixture into the prepared pie crust, spreading it evenly.
Dot the top of the apples with the pieces of butter.
Roll out the second pie crust and place it over the filling. Trim and crimp the edges to seal the pie.
Brush the top crust with the beaten egg and sprinkle with sugar.
Cut a few slits in the top crust to allow steam to escape during baking.
Place the pie on the preheated baking sheet and bake for 45 to 50 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown and the filling is bubbly.
Remove the pie from the oven and allow it to cool on a wire rack before slicing and serving.
Enjoy your homemade Apple Pie, optionally with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a dollop of whipped cream on top!
